Recently a new honour has been added to the list of achievements of superstar Shah Rukh Khan. He has been honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland. He has become the first Indian actor to be honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award at this prestigious international film festival.
Shahrukh’s filmography has films of almost every genre that Indian cinema explores the most. Shahrukh, who is called the ‘King of Romance’, has also done two big action films last year. Apart from being a hero, he has also played iconic roles of a villain.
According to the level of Shahrukh’s stardom, people always thought that he will work in Hollywood films as well. But this one thing has been missing in Shahrukh’s career till now. Now Shahrukh has talked about this. He also told what his ‘dream project’ is.
In a conversation with Variety, Shahrukh explained why he has not tried his hand in Hollywood films till now and what are his conditions for doing a Hollywood film.
He said, ‘I think it is the biggest cinema in the world in terms of reach and the way people watch it. I don’t think I am in a position to choose (Hollywood) films or put any conditions for them. But yes, whenever I get a chance – I hope I can speak decent English. And I don’t want to sound too high-brow, but it should be a role that matches the level that the Indian audience has given me. It should not disappoint them.’
Shahrukh said that even though he may seem very casual and careless to people, he fully understands and respects the love people have given him. He further said, ‘People are inspired by what I do. People have given me a little extra respect. People have given me and my family everything that I have. People of India and people from all over the world, Indians and people of the subcontinent. And I have to maintain that respect in whatever role I do, whether it is a Hindi film or a South film or a Marathi film or a French film or a Hollywood film.’
Shahrukh said that he doesn’t think anyone from Hollywood has offered him any such role yet. And he doesn’t even have an agent in Hollywood. He hasn’t made any special efforts for this yet.
More than Hollywood, Shahrukh’s dream is to work in an Indian film which is watched by the audience at the same level as Hollywood films are watched.
Shahrukh said, ‘My dream is to do an Indian film which gets the kind of audience that big Hollywood films get. Whether I am an actor in it, or as a lightman, as a producer, as a writer or as a presenter. I just want an Indian story to be accepted worldwide and hopefully I am a part of it.’
Let us tell you, Shahrukh is considered the biggest star of India in the international film market and the overseas collections of many of his films are equal to the Indian collections. In such a situation, if he succeeds in bringing his ‘dream project’, then it is not difficult to imagine how big a blast it will be.
Talking about Shahrukh’s work front, he will now be seen in the film ‘King’ with his daughter Suhana Khan. It is being described as an action entertainer which is being made by Sujoy Ghosh, director of films like ‘Kahaani’ and ‘Badla’. Siddharth Anand, who has directed Shahrukh in ‘Pathan’, is the producer of this film.
