‘I did not receive your reply…’, Mamata Banerjee again wrote a letter to PM Modi on Kolkata rape and murder

There is a continuous uproar over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata. Political parties have come out on the streets against each other demanding justice. Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has written another letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In this letter, Banerjee has appealed to make more stringent laws regarding rape. Earlier also Banerjee had written a letter to PM Modi with the same appeal.

Mamata Banerjee wrote in the letter that you will remember my letter written on 22 August, in which the need for making strict laws regarding the ever-increasing rape incidents was emphasized. But no reply was received from your side on this sensitive issue. However, a reply was definitely received from the Ministry of Women and Child Development. But in view of the seriousness of the matter, it is insufficient. I feel that not enough attention has been paid to the seriousness of this matter.

She said in the letter that I request you to consider making strict laws to deal with rape and provide the harshest punishment for those who commit such heinous crimes. Also, necessary steps should be taken for the speedy disposal of such cases. I hope that this matter will be considered by you.

Let us tell you that on August 9, the body of a trainee doctor was found in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. The doctor was raped and then murdered. In view of the horror of this case, people were enraged not only in Kolkata but across the country. After this, large-scale protests started. The main accused in this case, Sanjay Roy, has been arrested.
