IR M Anukaathir Surya, In a landmark decision, the Finance Ministry has approved the request of a senior woman officer of the Indian Revenue Service (IRS) to change her name and gender in all official records. The request was made by M Anusuya, a 2013 batch IRS (Customs and Indirect Taxes) officer. She is currently posted as the Assistant Public Prosecutor in the Customs, Excise and Service Tax Appellate Tribunal (APSAT) in Hyderabad.Siesta) working as Joint Commissioner in the Office of the Chief Commissioner. Anusuya had requested to change her name to M. Anukaathir Surya and gender from female to male.
The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs said in an office order issued on July 9, 2024 that the authority considered his request and from now on the officer will be recognized as Anukathir Surya in all official records. This order has been issued with the approval of the competent authority.
Let us tell you, Surya started her career as Assistant Commissioner in Chennai in December 2013. In 2018, she was promoted as Deputy Commissioner. According to the professional platform LinkedIn profile, she was posted in Hyderabad last year. Surya obtained a bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communication from Madras Institute of Technology in 2010. In 2023, she did a PG Diploma in ‘Cyber Law and Cyber Forensics’ from National Law Institute University in Bhopal.
