Husband and mother-in-law sentenced to life imprisonment in dowry murder case in Bareilly

A local court in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh has sentenced the husband and mother-in-law of a deceased woman to life imprisonment in a dowry murder case. Additional District Sessions Court Judge Abhay Srivastava has also imposed a fine of Rs 15,000 each on the convicted husband Darshan Singh (29) and his mother Kamlesh Devi (63).

Assistant District Government Advocate Anoop Koharwala said that Pramod Kumar, father of the woman living in CBganj area of ​​​​Bareilly city, had lodged a complaint in Fatehganj West police station in the year 2021 that his daughter was married to Darshan Singh of Chaneta village in the year 2020. Since the marriage, his daughter’s husband and mother-in-law used to harass her.

They were demanding a refrigerator and Rs 2 lakh from her. Due to this, she used to remain upset. When the dowry demand was not met, the accused killed the victim on February 6, 2021. In the post-mortem, rope marks were found on the victim’s neck. The prosecution presented seven witnesses in this case. After this, the court has pronounced the sentence.

Let us tell you that just last week, a case of dowry murder has come to light from Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh. Here a man killed his wife over the demand of dowry. In this case, the police arrested the accused husband and two of his relatives. The accused and the victim got married in the year 2019, after which the demand for dowry started.

Ballia Superintendent of Police Vikrant Veer said that Pramod Rai, a resident of Zamania town of Ghazipur district, had lodged a complaint in this matter at the Narhi police station of the district on Saturday. Pramod Rai is the father of the deceased. He has said in his complaint that his daughter Kumkum was married to Rajneesh Rai alias Golu, son of Satyendra Rai of Narhi village in April 2019.

Within a few days of the marriage, her in-laws started demanding dowry. His daughter Kumkum was often beaten and harassed by her husband and in-laws for not being able to fulfill the dowry demand. The victim’s father claimed in his complaint that on the night of August 16, his daughter’s brother-in-law told him that her health had deteriorated.

He called them to Buxar. On reaching there, they found out that their daughter had already died. On the basis of the father’s complaint, the police registered a case against the accused husband Rajneesh, his parents and brother Vikas Rai in Narhi police station. Rajneesh, Vikas and Satyendra have been arrested from near Bairiya Tiraha and sent to jail.
