The date was 24 June 2017 and the time was around 10.25 pm when the news came that the police had killed gangster Anandpal Singh in an encounter. But soon after, many questions started arising about this encounter. Anandpal’s family also termed it a fake encounter and refused to perform Anandpal’s last rites. Soon protests started all over Rajasthan. Rajputs from other states also started arriving in support of Anandpal.
Why questions arose on Anandpal’s encounter
On the encounter of Anandpal Singh, his family’s lawyer called it fake and said that he was captured from Haryana and brought to Churu and a fake encounter was done after managing it. The lawyer said that there are many loopholes in the entire story of the police, which many people are not able to believe. It was told that even his brothers did not know about his location, then how was he caught.

Shot fired from AK-47 again…,
The lawyer called this encounter fake and said that the police had told that Anandpal had 400 cartridges left and he was firing bullets from AK-47, then how did the police go near him and shoot him in the back. All the policemen injured in this encounter were Rajputs. The family members alleged that how did this happen. It was argued that since the Rajputs sympathized with Anandpal, the injured policemen were presented as Rajputs. The lawyer said that Anandpal wanted to surrender, but with security.
Shot brother using him as shield
Before the encounter of Anandpal Singh, his brother Rupesh alias Vicky and his henchman Devendra alias Gattu were caught by the police. It is said that the police threatened to kill both of them in an encounter. Vicky did not say anything on this, but Gattu got scared. Gattu told that Anandpal Singh had come to Rajasthan a day before. He is staying in a house of Shravan Singh built in the field of Moulasar in Churu. As soon as this was known, about 150 policemen and commandos reached Churu. The police completely surrounded the village of Moulasar.
What did Anandpal’s wife’s lawyer say
On behalf of Anandpal’s wife Raj Kanwar and brother Rupinder Singh, lawyer Bhanwar Singh Rathore had challenged the entire case in the court. Rathore said that the closure report presented by the police was challenged by us, we told the court that on the day of the incident, Anandpal was hiding on the roof of the house. The police was not able to go up. Then the officers told his brother Rupinder to go ahead, we will not kill Anandpal. Following this Rupinder, the police reached the roof. Where Anandpal surrendered. Immediately after which he was beaten up. During that time, the then SP Rahul Baharth, Additional SP Vidya Prakash Chaudhary, DSP Suryaveer Singh Rathore, RAC Head Constable Kailash shot Anandpal dead.
How did the bullet hit from so close?
Lawyer Rathore said that we told the court that as per the eyewitness statement and the doctors’ report, Anandpal was shot at from a close distance of about 3 to 5 feet, and there are marks of assault injuries on him. Which is also in the medical report. After these arguments, the court today took cognizance against the team involved in the encounter and ordered to prosecute.
What did the police say in their report
Police said that as soon as we reached that place, Anandpal went towards the back door of the house and started firing bullets from AK-47. Police already had information that he had 400 rounds of bullets. Anandpal fired about 100 rounds and tried to escape from the window. But police entered the house from the roof and fired 6 bullets at Anandpal from behind.
