Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the first budget of Modi Government 3.0 on Tuesday. Many announcements have been made in the budget, in which a promise has also been made to give internships to 1 crore students. Nirmala Sitharaman has announced that the government will give internships to 1 crore youth in 500 top companies. What is the government’s plan?

The government has announced this to give a big boost to the employment and skill development sector in the country. In this initiative of the government, 1 crore youth will be given internships and these internships will be available in 500 big companies. Through the internship program, students will be given financial help by the government at the beginning of their career. The government will provide a budget of Rs 1.48 lakh crore for this plan.

Who will get the chance?

The internship program will be open to those students who have completed a full-time course and are between 21 and 24 years of age. Also, the eligibility for internship will be decided according to the profile of each company.

Who will not get the chance?

Students who have studied from IIT, IIM, IISER will not get a chance in this scheme. Apart from this, students who have degrees like CA or CMA. Apart from this, if any member of the family is a government employee or comes under the purview of income tax, then the benefit of the internship scheme will not be available.

In which companies will the internship be done?

According to the initial information, the companies themselves will decide which companies will participate in this program. First, the companies will take the initiative to join this program, after which they will be included in the list.

How to apply?

One will have to apply online for the internship, detailed information about which is yet to come.

How much money will I get?

Let us tell you that every student selected in this plan will get an internship stipend of Rs 5000 per month. Apart from this, Rs 6000 will be given separately as one-time assistance. This scheme will be run in two phases, in which the first phase will be for two years and the second phase will be for 3 years. The cost of training of the students will be borne by the company. Along with this, the company will bear 10 percent of the internship cost from its CSR fund.

What is CSR?

CSR means Corporate Social Responsibility. Actually, companies have to spend a part of the profit from their business on social and environmental works. Big companies spend 2% of their total profit on CSR. Foreign companies working in India also create this fund.

Opposition raised questions

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh says, ‘The Finance Minister has taken a leaf out of the Congress manifesto 2024. His internship program is clearly based on the Congress’ proposed apprenticeship program, which we called ‘First Job Pakki’. But, in his trademark style, he has designed it to make headlines. The Congress manifesto had a programmatic guarantee for all diploma holders and graduates, while the government’s plan has an arbitrary target (1 crore internships).
