Netflix The new series “The Perfect Couple” focuses on a police investigation after a death at the wealthy Winbury family’s Nantucket estate derails what would have been the wedding of the season.
While the show is firmly grounded in the murder-mystery genre, like the best-selling novel it’s based on, the opening credits feature an incongruous scene: The entire cast Regular dance performances on the beach.
At a Q&A following the show’s UK premiere at the BFI Imax in London, attended by cast members such as Business Insider, director Suzanne Beer and Nicole Kidman.

The dance set to Meghan Trainor’s recently released song “Criminal” features the show’s stars in suits and evening dresses doing some moves together.

But Jack Raynor, who plays the eldest Winbury brother, said the cast group chat went into chaos after learning that Bear wanted them all to remember and then dance while in character.

In the end, though, it all came down to whether or not Kidman would do it, because the scene wouldn’t have worked without her. While the Oscar winner finally agreed, she also put up a bit of a fight.
“Nicole came on set and said, ‘Look, I can’t. My dress is too tight, I can’t dance,'” Bier, who previously directed Kidman on HBO’s “The Undoing.”
Kidman said Beer put his foot down and insisted that the dance go on. “She ignored me and said, ‘Get out of there! Dance!'”
Only Liev Schreiber, who plays Kidman’s character’s husband, was particularly excited about the scene. He said that while everyone was complaining on the group chat, he was busy learning the moves.
“I was the only one who wanted to do it, and I’m hardly into it,” Schreiber said. “I worked on that dance for three weeks. Barely in it! Like two seconds.”
Despite their protests, the terrible dance did not become such a problem.
Instead, it marks the end of the cast’s time filming the show together, and it seems none of them will ever forget.
“It was the last day we shot together, and we went on this whole tour,” said Eve Hewson, who plays bride-to-be Amelia Sachs in the series.

The scene was choreographed by Dua Lipa’s choice and featured some of Taylor Swift’s backup dancers.

La’Donna, who has also worked with Kendrick Lamar, Rosalia and Selena Gomez, said: glamour That her aim with the dance was to “create something that the whole cast could enjoy, like a dance you could join at a party.”
Beer told the official Netflix companion site Tumdu: “It puts the show in a very specific space of, ‘This is a little bit more real, and as an audience, you can allow yourself to have fun and have fun.’ It was something very fun for everyone to do.”
Kidman said the cast also had extra support in the form of professional backup dancers who had worked with them before. Taylor Swift.

“No wonder I couldn’t get on camera,” Schreiber said.
