The Home Ministry has taken a big action against two BSF officers and removed them from their posts. DG BSF Nitin Agarwal has been relieved from the post of DG. Hence, he has been sent back to his original cadre i.e. Kerala cadre. At the same time, Special DG YB Khurania has also been removed and sent back to Odisha cadre.

The continuous infiltration of terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir for the last one year is the main reason for the removal of DG BSF and Special DG BSF.

This is the biggest administrative action of the Indian Government regarding the infiltration of terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir, the brunt of which has fallen on the most senior officials.

Apart from this, the inability to effectively control the terrorist infiltration from Punjab sector is also considered to be a major reason for this action. This is the first time in the last several years that two senior officers, who were leading paramilitary forces, have been removed in this manner. According to the information, new officers will be appointed soon.

DG BSF Nitin Agarwal is a 1989 batch Kerala cadre officer, while Khurania is a 1990 batch Odisha cadre officer. Agarwal took over as Border Security Force chief in June last year. At the same time, Khurania was leading the formation of the force on the Pakistan border as Special Director General (West).

Separate orders issued by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) said they were being sent back “prematurely” with “immediate effect”. The BSF, which has about 2.65 lakh personnel, guards the Indian borders with Pakistan in the west and Bangladesh in the east.
