Himachal Pradesh to face heavy rains for next 4 days, 114 roads closed, heavy rain warning issued

114 roads have been closed in Himachal Pradesh due to flash floods and landslides caused by cloudburst and heavy rains. The Meteorological Department on Saturday issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rains in Himachal till August 7, after which this step has been taken as a precaution.

According to the State Emergency Operations Centre, of the roads closed for vehicular traffic, 36 are in Mandi, 34 in Kullu, 27 in Shimla, eight in Lahaul-Spiti, seven in Kangra and two in Kinnaur district.

Himachal Road Transport Corporation has suspended its bus services on 82 routes, an official said. Moderate to heavy rains are expected in some parts of the state. Since Friday evening, Jogindernagar received the highest rainfall of 85 mm, followed by Gohar 80 mm, Shilaru 76.4 mm, Paonta Sahib 67.2 mm, Palampur 57.2 mm, Dharamsala 56.2 mm and Chaupal 52 mm.

The local weather office has issued a yellow alert for heavy rains till August 7. Officials said 77 people lost their lives and losses of Rs 655 crore were reported between June 27 and August 1 in rain-related incidents. Frequent cloudbursts caused flash floods in Nirmand, Sainj and Malana in Kullu; at least eight people died in Padhar in Mandi and Rampur subdivision of Shimla on the night of July 31.

The search for 45 people missing after the cloudburst resumed on Saturday morning with 410 rescue workers from the Army, NDRF, SDRF, ITBP, CISF, Himachal Pradesh Police and Home Guard teams looking for the missing people with the help of drones.
