Heavy rains wreak havoc in Gujarat, 15 dead, more than 11 thousand people shifted

There is a rain crisis in Gujarat. Due to record rainfall, the Meteorological Department has issued a red alert in 27 districts of Gujarat. The torrential rain of the last 48 hours had created flood-like conditions in many districts of Gujarat. Now the Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for 28 and 29 August. Most of the dams in the state have overflowed. The rivers are desperate to cross the danger mark and wreak havoc. Residential areas have turned into islands. Waterlogging of several feet after the torrential rain has forced people to remain confined in their homes.

The natural calamity has wreaked havoc on Gujarat. The fury of water is visible from Jamnagar to Junagadh, Vadodara to Banaskantha and Aravali to Ahmedabad. People living in posh areas are also troubled by the waterlogging. Bikes and scooters parked amidst the flood have almost drowned. Due to the torrential rain, even the cremation grounds have been flooded.

Rain also caused trouble in Vadodara

Rain brought problems in Vadodara as well. The roads on which vehicles used to speed, are now filled with several feet of water. Heavy rain in Vadodara for the last 48 hours has put a brake on the speed of the city. People are saying that they should somehow get relief from the wrath of floods.

The administration and the ADRF team are rescuing people living in low-lying areas. Actually, water is being released from Ajwa Sarovar into the Vishwamitra river in Vadodara. Due to which the Vishwamitra river is in spate. This river is flowing 8 feet above the danger level. Due to which there is a danger of drowning in the low-lying areas. The administration team has so far taken more than 4 thousand people to safe places.

What does IMD’s forecast say

According to the Meteorological Department, heavy rain is expected in Saurashtra on August 29 as well. There is a red alert in all districts except the districts of North Gujarat. Red alert has been issued in all the districts of Kutch, Saurashtra with heavy rains. Ahmedabad, Kheda, Anand, Dahod, Mahisagar, Vadodara, Panchmahal, Chhotaudepur, Bharuch and Narmada are on red alert with heavy rains. There is also a red alert in Surat, Tapi, Navsari, Dang, Valsad, Daman and Dadra Nagar Haveli.

Waterlogging in cities creates problems

Apart from this, waterlogging in Rajkot is increasing the troubles of people due to more than 20 inches of rain in 2 days. Due to which the movement of vehicles is affected at Madhapar Chowkdi, the entry point of Rajkot city. Rivers are in spate due to continuous rain in Junagadh too. Dams are overflowing. There is an atmosphere of panic in the nearby areas due to the dams being full. The red alert of the Meteorological Department is telling that the danger of natural calamity is not over yet.

15 died in three days

It is worth noting that 15 people have died in the heavy rains in Gujarat in the last three days. 1 person died in Morbi, 2 in Gandhinagar, 6 in Anand, 1 in Vadodara, 1 in Kheda, 2 in Mahisagar, 1 in Bharuch and 1 in Ahmedabad. 11,043 people were relocated in the last three days. Out of which 4160 people were relocated in Navsari district, 1158 in Valsad, 1081 in Anand, 1008 in Vadodara.

So far, 353 people trapped in flood waters and heavy rains have been rescued, of which the maximum 150 were rescued from Anand district, 108 from Kheda, 59 from Morbi, 20 from Navsari and 10 from Surendranagar.
