Heavy rains in August, rain in North-West India broke 23 years old record

Most parts of the country received heavy rainfall during the month of August. According to the Meteorological Department, India received 15.7 percent more rainfall than normal during the month of August. North-West India received 253.9 mm of rainfall in August, which is the second highest rainfall since 2001.

Earlier, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had forecast that rainfall in August would be within normal limits (94-106 per cent of the long period average). This is a good sign for sowing of Kharif crops and maintaining soil moisture in the coming months.

15 year old record broken in Delhi

Talking about the national capital Delhi, the highest rainfall has been recorded in the month of August since 2010. The Safdarjung Observatory, Delhi’s primary weather centre, recorded 390.3 mm rainfall in August till Friday evening, which is more than the 378.8 mm rainfall recorded in August 2012. Earlier, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had said that the highest rainfall in Delhi in the last 15 years was 455.1 mm in 2010.
