There has been a stir in the Malayalam film industry since the Justice Hema Committee report came out. One after another, South actresses and women associated with the industry are speaking openly about the physical abuse, sexual abuse and harassment they faced. Women have made serious allegations against many male actors, directors and others. Actor and CPI (M) MLA Mukesh is also included in this. A woman has made serious allegations of sexual abuse against Mukesh.
The demand for Mukesh’s resignation from the party is gaining momentum. The opposition is also standing against him. Meanwhile, Mukesh’s first wife Sarita’s statement given years ago is now going viral. In this statement, which came to the public’s attention, Sarita had talked about Mukesh’s behavior towards her. She had alleged that Mukesh had exploited her physically and mentally during the marriage.
Sarita had made serious allegations against Mukesh
Sarita had spoken to the media almost a decade ago. In those days, Mukesh had married dancer Methil Devika for the second time. Sarita had narrated her ordeal with surprise and shame. In a conversation with Manorama Online, she had said, ‘I am ashamed to say what I have suffered. I cannot believe that all this has happened to me. I have worked in films. I have seen all these films. But I never thought that this would happen to me in my life.’
Sarita had told that Mukesh’s affairs were the main reason for their separation. She also alleged that Mukesh had committed domestic violence against her many times during their marriage. Sarita had said, ‘I was hesitant to talk about this. When some people from the media came to know what I was going through, they tried to talk to me and I denied everything. To pretend that everything was fine in front of everyone, we took photos on the occasion of Onam and shared them. Amidst the discord in the family, he was having affairs with many women. I was just hoping that he would realize his mistake and come back.’
The actress further said, ‘After my father’s death, I started seeing Mukesh’s father as my own father. He was assured by me. That’s why I never complained to the police. I maintained this assurance till his death. Mukesh had beaten me in front of his maids. After that I stopped going to his house.’ Sarita had told that her father-in-law had told her that he knows what the actress is going through, but he does not want these things to come in front of the media. Due to this, he never said anything. But his silence was misunderstood.
Further, Sarita made another shocking revelation. She said, ‘When I was pregnant, he kicked me in the stomach and I fell in the yard. I was crying. In such situations, he used to say – You are a good actress. Go cry. He always found some way to hurt me. Once when I was nine months pregnant, we went to dinner together. When I was sitting in the car, he was moving the car back and forth. I fell while running behind the car and started crying sitting on the road. One night when he came home drunk, I asked him why he was late. In response to this, he pulled me by my hair, dragged me on the ground and hit me.’
Caught on charges of sexual abuse
Sarita and Mukesh got divorced in 2011. Apart from this, the actor also separated from his second wife Devika in 2021. In 2023, Mukesh talked about both his wives with Manorama News. He said that he has never said anything bad about his wives. An actress named Meenu Munnar has accused Mukesh of sexual abuse. She said that Mukesh, along with an actor, physically abused her on a film set in 2013. He also abused her. The actress also said that Mukesh also took advantage of her to help her become a part of the AMMA organization.
