‘He comes stealthily, takes away children from their homes’, the story of the terror of bloody wolves in Bahraich, in the words of villagers

The terror of man-eating wolves continues in UP’s Bahraich district. On the night of August 26, a wolf took away a child sleeping in the courtyard of a house in Khairighat police station area. The next day his mutilated body was found 500 meters away from the house. A few days before this, the man-eater had made an elderly woman his victim. In the last 30-40 days, a pack of wolves has killed 9 people including children in the area. More than a dozen people have also been injured. In view of these incidents, the local administration has appealed to people not to go out alone at night. At present, many teams of the forest department are on patrol. Drones are also being used for monitoring. But the situation has become such that people are now afraid of even staying at home.

Meanwhile, Forest Minister of the state government Dr. Arun Saxena reached a village under Mahsi development block of Bahraich, where a wolf had attacked and killed a woman. The fear of wolves is prevalent in this village. The Forest Minister told the victim’s family that the entire government is with you in this hour of grief. Every possible effort is being made to catch the wolves. After visiting the village, the minister also held a meeting with forest officials, DM and SP.

Let us tell you that 25 to 30 villages in about 100 square kilometers of Mahsi tehsil of Bahraich are troubled by the terror of wolves. Villagers are keeping watch to avoid wolf attacks. They are staying awake all night. They are not even able to go to the fields. Children are afraid to play outside the house. As soon as the sun sets, one has to live in the shadow of fear. Because, one does not know when and from where the man-eater will knock. Many frightened families have even sent their children to the house of relatives.

He comes silently and takes away children from their homes: Villagers

In fact, after eight incidents in the Mahsi Tehsil area of Bahraich district, the ninth incident came to light on the night of August 26 from Diwanpurwa in Khairighat police station area. Where 5 year old Aayansh was attacked by a man-eating wolf He took him away when he was sleeping with his mother Roli in the courtyard of the house. When Roli woke up and saw her child missing, she started screaming.

After which the family searched for the child a lot but could not find him. The next morning, Ayansh’s mutilated body was found lying some distance away from the village. The villagers said that there is a fear of bloodthirsty wolves in the area. Sometimes they come stealthily and attack people. Now they are kidnapping children from their homes. Such terror has never been seen before. All the arrangements made by the forest department have proved inadequate. Attacks by wolves are continuing.

25 teams of the forest department are engaged in catching wolves

It is being told that these man-eating wolves made their first victim at the end of June. Then they kept making people their prey one after the other. So far 9 people have become their prey. About 25 teams of five forest divisions Bahraich, Katarniaghat Wildlife, Shravasti, Gonda, and Barabanki are engaged in catching these wolves. But this entire exercise does not seem to have any effect on these man-eaters. Wolves are attacking human settlements one after the other in search of new prey. Although, some wolves have been caught but many are still roaming freely. Now these man-eaters have extended their scope to other areas of the district. After the incidents that took place in the Hardi police station area of the district so far, the ninth incident took place in Khairighat police station area.

BJP MLA seen patrolling with gun in his hand

Amidst the continuous wolf attacks and terror, the district administration is searching for the wolves with full capacity. At the same time, BJP MLA from Mahsi Sureshwar Singh has also taken charge. The MLA himself is regularly visiting the affected villages and patrolling with the villagers and officials. Recently, he was seen patrolling with a rifle in his hands.

Use of elephant dung and urine

Amidst all this, the forest department is adopting new methods to keep the wolves away from the population. The department is also using elephant dung and urine in wolf-affected villages. So that the smell of this can make people feel the presence of elephants and the wolves stay away from the population. However, it does not seem to have any effect. At present, the DFO has said that the activity and footmarks of the wolves are being investigated. A high-tech drone has also been ordered. It is expected that the problem will be solved soon.
