Aam Aadmi Party is also going to contest elections on 90 seats of Haryana Assembly, and the election campaign has started under the leadership of Sunita Kejriwal, wife of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. During her campaign, Sunita is presenting Kejriwal and her husband as the sons of Haryana and asking for blessings from the people like Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In her own way, she is trying to explain that if the people of Haryana want, they can ensure the victory of Arvind Kejriwal just like the people of Gujarat have been making Modi win.
Even during the Lok Sabha elections 2024, Sunita Kejriwal was campaigning for the Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi as well as in other states. Later, when the Supreme Court granted interim bail to Arvind Kejriwal for the election campaign, Sunita Kejriwal handed over the election torch to Arvind Kejriwal. Later, both of them continued to campaign together for their party. Arvind Kejriwal even sought votes for Congress candidates – but not only did the Aam Aadmi Party candidates lose, but the Congress also surrendered before the BJP in all three areas of their share.
Just like in the Lok Sabha elections, during the election campaign in Haryana too, Sunita Kejriwal’s target is Prime Minister Modi, and she is repeatedly trying to explain how Modi has put the son of Haryana in jail. She also tells that Arvind Kejriwal is a lion, and he is not going to be afraid of Modi or anyone else. Arvind Kejriwal will neither bow down before anyone, nor will he break down.

For Haryana too, Sunita Kejriwal is specifically mentioning Kejriwal’s 5 guarantees, just like Delhi and Punjab. She is promising on behalf of Aam Aadmi Party that if the party comes to power, then just like Delhi and Punjab, people will get free education, health and electricity facilities – and women will also get Rs 1000 every month. During the Lok Sabha elections too, Arvind Kejriwal had told the people of Delhi that after coming out of jail, he will definitely fulfill his promise of giving money to women every month.
Arvind Kejriwal has got interim bail in the ED money laundering case, but in the CBI case, the Delhi High Court has rejected his bail plea and asked him to go to the trial court. However, it is heard that Arvind Kejriwal’s legal team is preparing to go to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court has reserved its decision on the bail plea of Kejriwal’s colleague and former Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia.
The way Aam Aadmi Party is showing seriousness towards Haryana has never been seen before. Arvind Kejriwal has been holding rallies in Haryana for a long time, but he never seemed politically serious. In fact, Arvind Kejriwal started his Make India No. 1 campaign in Hisar on the same day when Rahul Gandhi started his Bharat Jodo Yatra from Kanyakumari in 2022.
The question is, will Sunita Kejriwal be able to reassure the people of Haryana separately?
Sunita Kejriwal wants blessings like Modi
At the Aam Aadmi Party rally in Sohna, Haryana, only two names were coming out repeatedly on Sunita Kejriwal’s tongue – first, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and second, Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Sunita Kejriwal was trying to explain to people in various ways how injustice is being done to the son of Haryana in Delhi. Sunita Kejriwal was saying in the rally, Modi ji has challenged Haryana that ‘I have put your son in jail’… now do whatever you want. I am also the daughter-in-law of Haryana… I want to ask you, you all will keep tolerating all this silently… will keep watching, your son has been put in jail.
The answer comes from the crowd, no.
Then she explains to the people, Modiji is from Gujarat… When he became the Prime Minister in 2014, the whole of Gujarat supported him, stood by him… All the seats from Gujarat were given to BJP… Your son has made Haryana’s name famous in the whole country and the world. Will you not support your son? Will you sit quietly?
Sunita Kejriwal asks, Assembly elections are coming up now… not even a single vote should go to BJP. Will it not go?
The crowd again responds in the same manner – ‘He will not go.’
Sunita Kejriwal tells the people, you have to make your son win with a huge majority… This is not a question of Arvind Kejriwal, this is a question of the honour of Haryana.
Is Sunita Kejriwal only asking the people of Haryana to vote for the Aam Aadmi Party in the assembly elections, or is she also asking for the boon of making Arvind Kejriwal the Prime Minister?
It depends on the people of Haryana whether they understand Sunita Kejriwal’s Mann Ki Baat or not. Whatever she says, it depends on the people whether they consider Sunita Kejriwal as their daughter-in-law or not. Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has also been saying in the elections that she is also a Punjabi daughter-in-law.
Before the Lok Sabha elections, Arvind Kejriwal was claiming himself to be the biggest challenger of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, but the performance of the Aam Aadmi Party was quite disappointing.
Anyway, the way the pressure on the Delhi government is increasing due to the new order of the Supreme Court on the MCD, the problems for Arvind Kejriwal and his team are increasing – and there does not seem to be much hope in fighting the Delhi Assembly elections next year separately from the Congress.
Kejriwal has never shown any special interest in Haryana
The first election for Aam Aadmi Party outside Delhi was the 2014 Lok Sabha election. Before that, Arvind Kejriwal had resigned after becoming the Chief Minister of Delhi – but since 2014, Aam Aadmi Party has not been able to win a single seat in Haryana. Not only has it not been able to win a Lok Sabha seat in Delhi, but it has not been able to win even an assembly seat in Haryana – and in Haryana politics, it never seemed that Arvind Kejriwal was very serious.
For the first time, Yogendra Yadav was in charge of the election campaign in Haryana when he was in the Aam Aadmi Party. In 2014, he contested from the Gurgaon Lok Sabha seat, but none of the 10 candidates of the party could save their deposit. In 2024, Sushil Gupta contested from the Kurukshetra Lok Sabha seat on behalf of the Aam Aadmi Party. He contested the Kurukshetra elections as a candidate of the INDIA alliance, but lost to BJP’s Naveen Jindal by 29 thousand votes.
In such a situation, while Arvind Kejriwal is currently lodged in Tihar Jail, and there is some time left for the Delhi Assembly elections, the Haryana Assembly elections are like a practice match for the Aam Aadmi Party, and it is also a good opportunity to test itself, but having too many expectations can also lead to disappointment.
It has been seen that Arvind Kejriwal has been giving preference to Punjab over Haryana, and his experiment has been successful. Even if not in the first attempt like Delhi, he has formed the government. Seeing the recent activism of Sunita Kejriwal, it seems as if Arvind Kejriwal has started looking for a solution to Delhi’s problems in Haryana.
