The bugle for Haryana assembly elections has been sounded. Many parties have also announced their candidates. But there is a lot of talk about wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia joining politics and contesting elections this time. These speculations gained more momentum when Vinesh Phogat met Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi. After this meeting, there was talk that Vinesh could contest the assembly elections this time on a Congress ticket. However, no official announcement has been made about this yet.
Vinesh Phogat is preparing to contest from this seat!
Let us tell you that Vinesh Phogat had opened a front against BJP leader Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Recently, she had made it to the finals in the Olympics. But she was disqualified even before the match. Since then, there is a lot of talk about Vinesh Phogat joining politics. According to reports, Vinesh Phogat is preparing to get a Congress ticket from Julana assembly seat of Jind district.
Why does Vinesh want to contest from this seat?
Actually, Vinesh’s connection with Julana is through her husband Somveer, who belongs to Bakhta Kheda village of Julana constituency. Sources say that Vinesh’s family has also started visiting the area and is trying to garner support from the local people by going from village to village.
Julana city is Jat dominated
Julana is considered an important seat in the Jat dominated area. In the last election, Amarjeet Dhanda of Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) won from here. From 2009 to 2019, this seat was with Parminder Singh of Indian National Lok Dal (INLD). On the other hand, Vinesh’s name is also being linked to Dadri assembly seat, where her ancestral village Balali is located.

Babita contested the election from Dadri
In the 2019 Dadri elections, Vinesh’s cousin Babita Phogat contested under the BJP banner. However, Babita finished third. Then independent candidate Somveer Sangwan won the election. Initially, there were also rumours that the Phogat sisters would face each other from the Dadri seat this time, but family sources have ruled out the possibility of any political rivalry between the two sisters.
BJP gave ticket to Sunil Sangwan
Now that the BJP has fielded Sunil Sangwan from Dadri, it seems that Vinesh Phogat’s focus is completely on Julana. The Congress has so far released a list of 66 candidates, but there is still suspense over Vinesh Phogat’s formal entry into politics. The party is still screening candidates for the remaining 24 seats. Let us tell you that elections are to be held in Haryana on October 5, while the results will come on October 8.
