Harvey Weinstein, the disgraced Hollywood mogul who has been held at New York City’s Rikers Island jail complex since April, was rushed to Bellevue Hospital Sunday evening for emergency heart surgery, according to his lawyer.
According to Mr. Weinstein’s lawyer, Arthur Aidala, Mr. Weinstein, 72, contacted his prison consultant, Craig Rothfeld, several times over the weekend to say he was not feeling well. “If you don’t do something this guy is going to die on your watch,” Mr. Adala said he and Mr. Rothfeld wrote in an email to Rikers and Bellevue officials Sunday evening before Mr. Weinstein was taken to the hospital.
Mr. Weinstein underwent surgery Monday morning and is doing well, Mr. Rothfeld said Monday afternoon. “Mr. Weinstein has several health issues that require ongoing treatment,” he said.
