Hariyali Amavasya 2024: The festival of Hariyali Amavasya is celebrated on the Tritiya Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Shravan month. Hariyali Amavasya is called the first Amavasya of Sawan. Due to greenery in the environment, it is known as Hariyali Amavasya. Donation, meditation and bathing have special significance on this day. Apart from this, plants are also planted on this day to fulfill various wishes. Wealth and prosperity can be achieved through plants on this date. It is believed that listening to the story of Lord Shiva on the day of Hariyali Amavasya is considered very special.
Story of Hariyali Amavasya (Hariyali Amavasya Katha)
A long time ago, there ruled a mighty king who had a son and a daughter-in-law. One day the daughter-in-law ate sweets secretly and blamed the mouse. The mouse was very angry at this accusation and decided to take revenge. One day, when some guests had come to the king’s house and were sleeping in the king’s room, the mouse secretly placed the queen’s saree there. In the morning when the guests woke up and saw the queen’s saree, everyone was shocked. When the king came to know about this, he expelled his daughter-in-law from the palace.
Now the queen would light a diya every evening to grow jowar and distribute jaggery prasad after the puja. One day, the king passed by the same way and saw the light of those diyas. Returning to the palace, the king ordered the soldiers to go to the forest and investigate there. When the soldiers reached under that peepal tree, they saw that the diyas were talking among themselves, sharing their stories. Everyone asked a quiet diya about its story. That diya told that it was the queen’s diya and narrated the whole incident in detail. It told that the queen had stolen sweets and blamed the rat, after that the rat went to the king’s room to take revenge on the queen and put her saree in the king’s room, but this time the queen was innocent but still she was thrown out of the palace and still she is suffering punishment. The soldiers told the king everything. The king called the queen back to the palace, where the queen started living happily again.

Method of worshiping Hariyali Amavasya (Hariyali Amavasya Pujan Vidhi)
Bathing in the holy river on Hariyali Amavasya has great importance. You can bathe at home by mixing Gangajal in the water. After bathing, light a lamp in the temple of the house. Offer Arghya to Sun God. It is believed that distributing green bangles, vermilion, bindi gives long life to the spouse and also brings happiness in the house. On the day of Hariyali Amavasya, devotees also worship Peepal and Tulsi trees and do parikrama. There is a tradition of offering Malpua as prasad on this day. On this day, the ancestors are also offered tarpan.
