Gujarat Rains: Gujarat submerged in overnight rain, underbridges-underpasses submerged, trains affected, 47 roads closed

Heavy rains have been falling in South Gujarat since late last night. More than seven inches of rain fell in Valsad district between 12 midnight and 6 am, due to which life has been disrupted. The Meteorological Department has predicted moderate to heavy rains in some districts of South Gujarat and Saurashtra for the next four days. Gujarat has received more than 60 percent of the season’s average rainfall. Due to so much rain in Valsad, the railway underbridge has been closed, due to which traffic is closed. Apart from this, 47 roads of the district have been closed due to waterlogging or damage.

Flood like situation in Ambika river

Navsari and Dang districts also received heavy rainfall after three days. Saputar received 3 inches of rain last night, and flood-like conditions have developed in the Ambika river here. The effect of the flood is visible on the low-level bridges built on the Ambika river at Chikhalda, Susarda and Ambapada. People were seen crossing the river risking their lives. Apart from this, the tourist favourite Gira waterfall was seen in its fierce form today. The administration has imposed restrictions on going near the waterfall.

Underpass submerged due to heavy rain in Vapi

Due to the torrential rains since late night, life in Vapi has also been disrupted. The main underpass connecting East and West has been filled with water, due to which it has had to be closed. This situation has put local residents and daily commuters in serious problems. Due to the overnight rain, the water level in the underpass increased rapidly, due to which the traffic had to be stopped completely. Due to the closure of the underpass, people have to use alternative routes, which are available only after traveling a long distance.

Municipality engaged in draining out water

All the members and employees of Vapi Nagar Palika have been engaged in the work of draining out the water since the whole night. However, all the water pumps have failed, making it more challenging to handle the situation. The Nagar Palika team has tried to arrange additional pumps to bring the situation under control and has also appealed to the local administration for help. A Nagar Palika official said, “We have made all possible efforts, but due to heavy rains the water level is constantly rising. We are making continuous efforts and trying our best to open the underpass as soon as possible.”

Due to the closure of the underpass, the local people are facing great difficulties. School going children, office going employees and businessmen are facing obstacles in their daily work. A local resident said that we pass through this underpass every day, but now we have to take a longer route, which is a waste of both time and money.
