Graham Thorpe commits suicide: Former England and Surrey batsman Graham Thorpe died on 5 August this month. He was 55 years old. Then the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) gave this information. The ECB did not give the reason for this. But now Thorpe’s wife Amanda has made a big revelation in this matter. She has told that Thorpe had committed suicide.

Amanda told that Graham Thorpe was suffering from depression and anxiety due to his poor health for the last two years. This was the reason that ultimately he lost his life. Amanda has revealed this in an interview given to former England captain Michael Atherton.

He said that before his death, Thorpe had fought a long mental and physical battle with himself. The Times’ quoted Thorpe’s wife as saying, ‘Despite having a wife and two daughters, whom he loved very much and who loved him with all their heart, he could not recover.

Amanda said: ‘He had been quite unwell in recent times and he really thought we would be better off without him, but he lost his life and we were devastated.’ A ceremony was held in Thorpe’s memory before the start of the match between Farnham Cricket Club and Chipstead Cricket Club last Saturday, which was attended by his wife and daughters Kitty (22) and Emma (19).

‘The episodes of depression could sometimes become extremely serious.’

Amanda said, ‘Graham had been suffering from depression and anxiety for the past few years. Due to this, he tried to take his own life in May 2022, due to which he had to spend several days in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). He suffered from depression and anxiety which sometimes became very severe.’

Graham Thorpe scored 6744 Test runs in 100 Test matches at an average of 44.66, which included 16 centuries and 39 half-centuries. Thorpe also played 82 ODIs for England. During this, he scored 2380 runs at an average of 37.18. Thorpe scored 21 half-centuries in ODIs. This batsman played county cricket for Surrey and scored nearly 20,000 runs for the team.
