now government employee RSS The Central Government has lifted the 58-year-old ‘ban’ on the participation of Government servants in the activities of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. The order said, ‘The above instructions have been reviewed and it has been decided to delete the mention of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh from the relevant Office Memorandums dated 30 November 1966, 25 July 1970 and 28 October 1980.’

Citing an alleged official order issued last week, the Congress on Sunday claimed that the “ban” on government employees participating in the activities of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has been lifted. Congress general secretary (communication) Jairam Ramesh shared an office memorandum issued by the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions on July 9, which deals with the participation of government employees in the activities of the RSS. “The above instructions have been reviewed and it has been decided to delete the mention of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh from the relevant office memorandums dated November 30, 1966, July 25, 1970 and October 28, 1980,” the order said.

‘RSS never hoisted the tricolour in Nagpur’

In a post with the photo of the order, Ramesh said, ‘Sardar Patel had banned the RSS after Gandhiji’s assassination in February 1948. Later, the ban was lifted on the assurance of good conduct. Even after this, the RSS never hoisted the tricolor in Nagpur.’

He said in the post, ‘In 1966, a ban was imposed on government employees participating in RSS activities and it was the right decision. This is the official order issued in 1966 to impose the ban.’

Ramesh said, ‘After June 4, 2024, the relationship between the self-proclaimed non-biological Prime Minister and the RSS has soured. On July 9, 2024, the 58-year ban was lifted which was in place even during Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s tenure as Prime Minister.’ Ramesh said, ‘I believe that the bureaucracy can now also come in shorts.’

This was said while pointing towards the khaki shorts uniform of the RSS

The Congress leader said this while referring to the RSS’ uniform of khaki shorts, which was replaced with brown trousers in 2016. Tagging the July 9 order, BJP leader Amit Malviya said, “The unconstitutional order issued 58 years ago in 1966, which banned government employees from participating in RSS activities, has been withdrawn by the Modi government.” The BJP leader said that the original order should not have been passed in the first place.
