From Sanjay Roy to Sandip Ghosh… these are the 5 characters of the Kolkata incident, who have been arrested by the CBI

In the Kolkata scandal, the CBI arrested four accused including ex-principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Sandeep Ghosh, on Monday. After about 15 days of interrogation, these four have been arrested in the case of corruption in the institute. These include Sandeep along with Biplab Singh, Suman Hazra and Afsar Ali Khan. Earlier, civic volunteer of the police, Sanjay Roy, was arrested, who is the main accused in this case.

Character number 1, Sanjay Roy:- Sanjay Roy is the main accused in the doctor rape-murder case in Kolkata. Investigation so far has revealed that he alone carried out this horrific crime. The CBI has more than 53 evidences against him, which are screaming testimony of his crimes. He is currently in judicial custody. Kolkata Police arrested him on the morning of the incident. Sanjay was a civic volunteer in Kolkata Police.

Character number 2, Sandeep Ghosh:- Sandeep Ghosh, former principal of Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, was arrested on Monday on charges of corruption in the institute. Former Deputy Superintendent of the hospital Dr Akhtar Ali had filed a complaint against him accusing him of financial irregularities. This includes allegations like smuggling of unclaimed bodies in the hospital, corruption in the disposal of bio-medical waste, nepotism in construction tenders.

Character number 3, Biplab Singh:- Biplab Singh is a co-accused in the corruption case in RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. He is also the owner of Maa Tara Traders. An FIR in this case has also been registered in the name of Maa Tara Traders. It is being told that his father has worked in the medical college. Taking advantage of his father’s connections, he first started making posters and banners in the hospital, then started the work of supplying medicines.

Character number 4, Suman Hazra:- Suman Hazra, who supplies material to the hospital, and Sandip Ghosh are very good friends. He used to buy government medicines and medical equipment and then sell them in the market. He also has a shop named Hazra Medical Shop. Suman and Biplab live in the same locality of Kolkata. Both have been close associates and close aides of Sandip Ghosh in corruption cases.

Character number 5, Afsar Ali Khan:- One of Sandeep Ghosh’s close associates is Afsar Ali Khan. Former Deputy Superintendent of the hospital Dr Akhtar Ali had said that Sandeep used to keep private security for his protection. Afsar also worked as a bouncer along with Sanjay Roy. Apart from this, RG Kar used to play an important role in the financial irregularities in the medical college and hospital. He is also Sandeep’s confidante.

On August 19, Kolkata Police registered a case against the four accused including Sandeep Ghosh under Section 120B, 420 of IPC and Section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. After this, on August 24, following the order of Kolkata High Court, CBI took over the investigation. Arrests have been made under the above sections. Maa Tara Traders, Madhya Jhorahat, Banipur, Howrah; Ishan Cafe, 4/1, Belgachia and Khama Louha are also accused in this.

Know what punishment can be given under which section…

Section 120B of IPC- Section 120B of the Indian Penal Code is imposed for conspiring together to commit any crime. It is not necessary that the accused himself commits the crime. He can also be a part of such a conspiracy.

Punishment- Punishment for life imprisonment or rigorous imprisonment for a term of 2 years or more.

Section 420 of IPC- Cases have been registered under this section against those who cheat, defraud and acquire property dishonestly. But now under the Indian Penal Code (BNS) which came into force from July 1, Section 318 is being used instead of 420.

Punishment- Imprisonment for a term not exceeding seven years and fine.

Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988- A case is registered under this section when a government officer or employee earns money other than his legal remuneration in connection with his official duties.

Punishment- Imprisonment for a term ranging from 6 months to 5 years and fine

Kolkata case

CBI has interrogated Sandip Ghosh for 150 hours

The CBI has questioned Sandeep Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, for more than 150 hours. He has also been questioned in connection with the investigation into the rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor on the morning of August 9. The CBI has also conducted polygraph tests on Sandeep twice to know all the truths related to this case. During the first test, Sandeep did not give satisfactory answers to the CBI’s questions.

CBI officials conducted searches at Sandeep Ghosh’s house and hospital. An official said that three teams have been formed to investigate the financial irregularities. The first team conducted an investigation by visiting the morgue of RG Kar Hospital. They inquired about the infrastructure there, the protocols involved in keeping the bodies safe and conducting post-mortems. The five-member team spoke to the doctors and staff of the hospital, which included Dr. Saptarshi Chatterjee.

Money was used to pass the students after failing them

The second CBI team went to the Chest Department on the third floor of the emergency building of RG Kar Hospital, where the victim was on duty that night, and inspected the crime scene. Nurses and other hospital staff were spoken to there. Earlier, only one arrest could be made in this case, which was of the main accused Sanjay Roy, who is currently in judicial custody. Now the second biggest arrest in this case is that of Sandeep Ghosh.

Akhtar Ali, former Deputy Superintendent of RG Kar Medical College, had said that during the tenure of Sandeep Ghosh, there were many financial irregularities in the functioning of the institution. He was also involved in many unethical activities and corruption. Students were deliberately failed, and then money was taken in the name of passing them. He had also complained about this to the Vigilance Committee. He also became a part of the investigation. But he was transferred before the final report.
