Sixwire, a Nashville-based country music band, took center stage at the 2024 Republican National Convention (RNC) in Milwaukee. When a teleprompter malfunction interrupted House Speaker Mike Johnson’s speech, Sixwire stepped in to play a nearly 45-minute set of classic rock and country covers to fill the time
The five members of Sixwire are:
Andy Childs: Lead Vocals and Guitar
Childs was a solo contemporary Christian and country artist signed to RCA Nashville in the 1990s before co-founding Sixwire
Steve Mandile: Lead Guitar and Vocals
Mandile is a veteran songwriter who has written songs for artists like Tim McGraw. He wanted Childs to be the lead singer of the band, saying “I just don’t feel like I have the ability to be a really good frontman”
John Howard: Bass Guitar and Vocals
Howard is one of the core members of Sixwire, providing bass guitar and vocals.
Chuck Tilley: Drums and Vocals
Tilley has worked with high-profile country artists like Dolly Parton and Lee Greenwood over his career .

Robb Houston: Guitar and Vocals (former member)
Houston was previously a member of Sixwire but left the band in 2016 after being diagnosed with ALS, passing away in 2020
Sixwire was formed in 2000 in Tennessee and was signed to Warner Bros. Records, releasing their debut album in 2002 which featured the singles “Look at Me Now” and “Way Too Deep”. The band has performed on tour with major country acts like Tim McGraw, Martina McBride, and Kenny Chesney, and has served as the house band for TV shows like ESPN’s NFL Draft and CMT’s Can You Duet . Their performance at the 2024 RNC was praised by social media users for keeping the event going during a technical difficulty .
