Former Apprentice Employee Claims Trump is Anti-LGBTQ and a Poor Boss

Donald Trump, the former President of the United States and current Republican presidential candidate, has a long history of opposing LGBTQ rights and enacting policies that discriminate against the LGBTQ community. Cyndi Lauper, a singer-songwriter who worked with Trump on his hit show “The Apprentice,” revealed that the former president openly opposed the LGBTQ community.

During his presidency, Trump initiated a sustained effort to roll back protections for LGBTQ people, including an attempt to “define ‘transgender’ out of existence,” erode protections for transgender students and workers, and weaken access to gender-affirming healthcare. The Trump administration blocked basic job protections for LGBTQ people, insisting that employers should be free to fire workers for their sexual orientation or gender identity.

Trump’s administration also eliminated nondiscrimination protections for LGBTQ people established under the Affordable Care Act and banned transgender people from serving openly in the armed forces. The administration submitted amicus briefs to the U.S. Supreme Court supporting discrimination against LGBTQ people in the workplace.

If elected again, Trump has vowed to dismantle a new Biden administration policy that offers protections for transgender students under Title IX, a federal civil rights law that prohibits sex discrimination in education. He has also promised to rescind federal policies that prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity, and will assert that federal civil rights laws don’t cover anti-LGBTQ discrimination.

Trump’s hostility towards the LGBTQ community extends beyond his political career. As a boss, he has fostered a hostile work environment for LGBTQ employees, with some staffers describing removing their wedding rings before coming to work, taking down photos of their partners and families, or finding new jobs further away from certain political appointees due to fear of being identified as LGBTQ.

In conclusion, Donald Trump’s actions and policies as president and his treatment of LGBTQ employees demonstrate his strong opposition to LGBTQ rights and his willingness to discriminate against the community. A potential second Trump administration poses a significant threat to the hard-won protections and rights of LGBTQ individuals in the United States.
