Floods wreak havoc in Bangladesh, 50 lakh people affected… shortage of food, water, medicine and dry clothes

The situation in India’s neighbour Bangladesh has not been normal for a long time. First there were violent protests in Bangladesh, due to which Sheikh Hasina had to lose power and many people died in these protests. Now the country is facing the flood crisis. Bangladesh is in the grip of floods due to continuous monsoon rains and overflowing of rivers. 20 people have died due to the floods, while more than 50 lakh people are affected by the floods.

The floods have disrupted the lives of millions of people. They are facing a shortage of food, clean water, medicine and dry clothes, Bangladesh government chief Mohammad Yunus said in a televised address, adding that the administration has taken all necessary measures to ensure a return to normalcy for the flood victims.

According to Reuters, Abdul Haleem, a 65-year-old farmer from a village in Comilla district, said that his hut was swept away by 10-foot-high floodwater at midnight. He said that there are no belongings and no drinking water. Hardly anyone has brought relief (aid) inside the villages.
