Floods and rains wreak havoc in Telangana-Andhra Pradesh, 17 thousand people rescued, 2.7 lakh affected, people slept on the road when the bridge was washed away

Flood situation has arisen in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh due to heavy rains in the last two days. 110 villages have been submerged in Khammam district of Telangana, while in Andhra Pradesh 17 thousand people have been rescued and taken to safe places.

So far 9 people have died in Telangana due to floods and rains, while 8 people have lost their lives in rain-related incidents in Andhra Pradesh. Amidst these circumstances, Paleru bridge in Garikapadu near Andhra-Telangana border has suffered heavy damage. Traffic on the national highway has been disrupted due to a part of the bridge being washed away, due to which many people have to spend the night sleeping on the road.

9.7 lakh cusecs of water released

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has said that due to flooding in many parts of Vijayawada city, the lives of more than 2.7 lakh people have been disrupted. Naidu said that till Sunday night, 9.7 lakh cusecs of flood water was released from Prakasam Barrage. Such a flood had last occurred in 1998. Then 9.24 lakh cusecs of water was released from Prakasam Barrage. This time the water released is 50 thousand cusecs more.

Local people did the rescue

Amid the devastating floods in many parts of Telangana, a story of the rescue of a victim family has come to light. A family has been rescued by local people in Khammam. Akula Rani, a resident of Khammam, said, ‘Relatives rescued our family trapped in Khammam with the help of swimmers. No one from the police or administration came to help us.

Yellow alert for many states

According to IMD, apart from Telangana and Vidarbha, heavy to very heavy rains are expected in coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Karnataka and Marathwada. Along with this, heavy rains may also occur in areas of Kerala, coastal Maharashtra and Central Maharashtra. A yellow alert has been issued by the Meteorological Department regarding this. At the same time, heavy rains may occur at some places in eastern Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and Chhattisgarh, eastern Rajasthan, Gujarat today.
