Flood in Gujarat! Roads turned into sea, dams overflowed, IMD issued red alert in 28 districts

Heavy rains have caused havoc in Gujarat. Many districts of the state are in the grip of floods. In the last 24 hours, 251 talukas of 33 districts in Gujarat received rain. The highest rainfall was recorded in Tankara of Morbi and Morvahadaf of Panchmahal, where 14 inches of rain has fallen so far. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for heavy rains in 28 districts of Gujarat and an orange alert in 6 districts today (Tuesday), 27 August. It is raining continuously in many cities of Gujarat. There are flood-like conditions in Navsari, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, Kutch, Kheda and many other areas due to torrential rains. Many areas have been cut off from communication.

Gujarat devastated by rain

So far, 14 talukas of Gujarat have received more than 10 inches of rain and 100 talukas have received more than 4 inches of rain. In the last 24 hours, the highest rainfall has been recorded in Morbi, Panchmahal, Kheda, Vadodara, Anand, Kutch, Mahisagar, Rajkot, Ahmedabad, Jamnagar, Dang, Patan, Surendranagar, Mahisagar, Gandhinagar, Botad, Chhotaudepur, Narmada districts.

Somewhere red and somewhere orange alert

The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for rain in Kutch, Morbi, Surendranagar, Jamnagar, Rajkot, Dwarka, Porbandar, Girsomnath, Junagadh, Panchmahal, Dahod, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad, Ahmedabad, Botad, Amreli, Anand, Kheda, Mahisagar, Panchmahal, Narmada, Vadodara, Chhotaudepur, Surat, Dang, Dahod. At the same time, an orange alert has been issued for rain in Banaskantha, Patan, Mahesana, Gandhinagar, Sabarkantha, Aravalli. Gujarat has received 99.66 percent of the season’s rainfall so far, the highest rainfall has been in Kutch at 117 percent, South Gujarat at 108 percent, Saurashtra at 102 percent, Central East Gujarat at 99 percent and North Gujarat at 80 percent.

NDRF-SDRF teams deployed

Let us tell you that 13 NDRF teams and 22 SDRF teams have been deployed in the rain-affected districts, which are helping in rescue and relief operations. In the current situation, out of 206 reservoirs in the state, 59 reservoirs are 100% full, 72 reservoirs are on high alert and 22 are on alert, 9 have flood warnings and 7 rivers are in spate.

Sardar Sarovar dam currently has 88.74% of its total storage capacity i.e. 2,96,459 MCM water. Power supply of 7009 villages across the state has been affected, out of which power has been restored in 6977 villages. Apart from this, a total of 523 roads are closed in Surat, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi Dang and Chhotaudepur districts in the state.

Ahmedabad submerged

Ahmedabad has received more than 9 inches of rain in the last 24 hours, due to which many areas are waterlogged. Even today, the weather department has issued a red alert for heavy rain in Ahmedabad. In a few hours of rain, water has started flowing on the roads of Ahmedabad, due to which the speed of vehicles has slowed down. At the same time, due to waterlogging in residential areas, life has also been deeply affected. Many posh colonies of Ahmedabad have also been waterlogged.

Rain wreaks havoc in Surat

Surat is in a bad condition due to torrential rains. Tapi river is in spate and flood-like crisis has arisen in many areas of Surat. Vehicles parked on the roads have drowned in water due to the overflowing of Tapi river in Surat. Water has entered shops and houses. This crisis in this part of Surat has happened due to the release of about 2.5 lakh cusecs of water from Ukai dam into Tapi river. Due to the release of water from the dam, the water level of Tapi river passing through the middle of Surat city has increased. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rain in Gujarat today as well. In view of the alert issued by the Meteorological Department, holiday has been declared in all primary schools in Gujarat today.

Heavy rains are falling in Kutch district of Gujarat since this morning. Due to heavy rains, there is waterlogging in the low lying areas. Heavy rains are falling in rural areas including Anjar, Bhachau, Lakhpat, Nakhatrana, Mundra, Mandvi, Bhuj, Lakhpat of Kutch. Rivers and streams are filled with rainwater and water is flowing over the roads. Nakhatrana of Kutch has received more than 10 inches of rain since morning, due to which water has entered people’s homes. At some places, due to waterlogging, people are having to leave their homes and go to safer places. The National Highway of Nalia-Mandvi is also closed due to rain. The Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rain in Kutch for the next two days.

Sardar Sarovar dam is overflowing

The problems of the coastal areas have increased due to the release of 4 lakh cusecs of water from the dam by opening 23 gates of Sardar Sarovar Dam. The water level of the dam has reached 135.30 meters. Due to heavy rains, the inflow of water at Sardar Sarovar Dam has increased to three and a half lakh cusecs. Due to the possibility of more water coming from upstream, 3,95000 cusecs of water has been released from the dam into the Narmada river. About 42 villages of Bharuch, Vadodara and Narmada situated on both the banks of the Narmada river have been alerted. NDRF and SDRF teams have been deployed in all the coastal areas.
