Fire in train wheels: A coach of Lokmanya Tilak Terminus-Gorakhpur Express caught fire near the wheels due to jamming of brakes on Monday morning in Thane district of Maharashtra, adjacent to Mumbai. Railway officials gave this information. An official said that the fire was immediately brought under control and all the passengers are safe. A spokesperson of Central Railway said that the Gorakhpur-bound train was stopped near Thakurli station (Thane district) at around 6.30 am due to jamming of brakes of S-8 coach.

Passengers panicked after seeing smoke coming out of the wheel

The fire starts due to excessive heat generated by jamming of brakes. Thakurli is about 35 km from Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) in Mumbai. According to sources, some passengers panicked after seeing smoke coming out of the wheels and immediately informed the railway staff present in the train. A Central Railway spokesperson said that it was a minor fire and was immediately extinguished using two fire extinguishers.

He said that within 20 minutes the train was sent to its destination. Sources said that earlier the train left its originating station LTT at 5.49 am with a delay of 26 minutes.
