FIR against Mahua Moitra

A case has been registered against Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra for insulting the dignity of a woman. A complaint has been filed against her for posting a post on social media on National Commission for Women chief Rekha Sharma.

Based on Rekha Sharma’s complaint, the Delhi Police’s special cell on Sunday registered an FIR under Section 79 (word, gesture or act with intent to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Justice Code, the new criminal code that replaced the Indian Penal Code.

Mahua Moitra, MP from Krishnanagar in West Bengal, on Thursday made the remark in reaction to a video of the women’s commission chief meeting women injured in the Hathras stampede in which 121 people were killed.
