Female trainee doctor was on night duty in medical college, her body was found in the morning

There was a stir in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, after the half-naked body of a female trainee doctor was found. The body of the female doctor was found inside the seminar hall of a government hospital. The deceased female doctor was a PGT student.

According to the news agency report, the deceased female trainee doctor was on night duty in the Chest Medicine Department of the Medical College and Hospital. Hospital sources said that there were injury marks on her body.

A doctor from the hospital, on the condition of anonymity, said, “She (the deceased woman doctor) also had dinner with her juniors at around 2 pm and then went to the seminar room as there is no separate on-call room to rest. We found her body there in the morning.”

Regarding this suspicious death, a senior police officer said, ‘The body of the female doctor was found by fellow students in the seminar hall. We are talking to doctors, nurses and others who were on duty with her last night. The matter is being investigated.’

City Police Commissioner Vineet Goel along with other officers visited the hospital and held a meeting with senior officials of the medical college. A hospital official said a three-member panel was formed by the authorities to investigate the doctor’s death.

Dr Manas Gumta, a senior member of the Association of Health Service Doctors, alleged that there was an attempt to “hush” the case. He said, “This has never happened in Bengal, the most unfortunate thing is that now there is an attempt to suppress the fact and make it a case of suicide.”
