Fatehpur: Cows were being taken for slaughter, when police stopped them they opened fire, two arrested after encounter

Two people were arrested after an encounter in Fatehpur district of Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday (August 3). It is being told that both of them were taking a cow for cow slaughter. But before carrying out the incident, the police caught them.

SHO of Hathgawan police station Vrindavan Rai told the news agency that information was received that some people were going to slaughter cows at a brick kiln. On this, the police team reached the spot and surrounded them, after which the criminals opened fire on the team.

Vrindavan Rai further said that Mahfooz alias Kallu (40) and Mahmood Hasan (44) were shot in the leg in retaliatory firing by the police. After which both were arrested and admitted to a government hospital for treatment. The cow being taken for slaughter has been rescued by the police.

According to the SHO, two country-made pistols and equipment used in cow slaughter have been recovered from the accused. At present, an FIR has been registered against both of them. Mehfooz is a history-sheeter and has 13 cases registered against him, while three cases are registered against Hasan.

According to the report, information was received about cow slaughter behind a kiln in Sultanpur Ghosh police station area. On which the SHO reached the spot with his team early on Tuesday morning. The police team surrounded the accused and asked them to surrender. But the accused opened fire on the police. When the police fired in self-defense, Mahfooz and Mahmood were injured by bullets in their legs.
