False campaign being run to damage reputation of Lok Sabha elections, Election Commission hits back on allegations- False campaign being run to damage reputation of Lok Sabha elections says Election Commission

Election Commission, The Election Commission on Sunday rejected an analysis by a citizens’ forum on the unusually large difference between the initially declared polling percentage and the final figures in the Lok Sabha elections, saying a smear campaign was being carried out to malign the reputation of the election. The development came after the Congress on Saturday urged the Election Commission to address concerns over the rise in Lok Sabha polling percentage, citing a report by ‘Vote for Democracy’.

Question regarding Andhra Pradesh and Odisha

According to reports, there is an unusually large difference between the initially declared voter percentage and the final figures in some states like Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. The Commission said in a series of posts on X, “Some people (other than candidates) are running a false campaign to damage the reputation of the largest election ever held in the history of mankind. The voting was conducted in the most transparent manner involving candidates / stakeholders in every phase of the election.

What did the Election Commission say

According to the commission, baseless attempts were made to compare the voting percentage figures at 7 pm on the polling day when voting had ended at many polling stations and voters would be waiting in queues at some polling stations. In such a situation, the actual percentage will be available only a day after the polling. The Election Commission said that the election figures and results are in accordance with the statutory form and procedures under the law.

According to the Commission, any candidate or voter can challenge the election result through a petition but no petition has been filed on this ground. An election petition (EP) can be filed within 45 days of the declaration of results.
