Fake milk found in more than half the samples in UP! How is it being made?

Although the story of adulterated milk is not new. But, earlier there was talk of only water being mixed in milk, then for many years investigations have revealed that urea is mixed in milk. But, now milk is being made only with chemicals. Adulteration in milk and its products has become so common that more than half of the samples are being rejected in the investigation, that is, adulteration has been found in most of the milk samples. Before the festive season, a report of FSSAI has been presented in the Rajya Sabha, which has revealed on what a large scale the business of adulteration in milk is happening.

In fact, data related to dairy product samples taken by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) in the Rajya Sabha in the last three years has been presented. It has been revealed that the maximum number of cases of adulteration in milk were caught in Uttar Pradesh. After this, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Kerala are named. Along with milk, cases of adulteration have been reported in cheese, curd, sweets and biscuits.

In Uttar Pradesh, 16,183 samples out of 27,750 samples of milk and milk products failed in the year 2023-24. At the same time, 3564 out of 18264 samples in Rajasthan, 2237 out of 18146 in Tamil Nadu and 1297 out of 10792 samples in Kerala were found to be failed. Action has also been taken against those selling adulterated milk in Uttar Pradesh and 1928 cases of adulteration have been registered in Uttar Pradesh. After this, 944 cases have been registered in Tamil Nadu, 737 in Kerala, 191 in Maharashtra, 174 in Bihar.

Which things are being adulterated?

According to reports, there are reports of chemicals being added to milk which are extremely dangerous for the body. Actually, fake milk is being made using these chemicals. Many chemicals are also being added to the chemical milk along with urea and detergent. It is said that apart from urea, caustic soda, maltrodextrin etc. are also added to milk. Along with this, hydrogen peroxide and formalin are added to increase the fat content in milk.

Along with this, starch is now added to correct the taste spoiled due to ammonia and urea. Due to this, the taste of adulterated milk cannot be detected. The special thing is that it has become very difficult to identify adulterated milk without machines and lab tests.
