This is the reason why every Olympic and Paralympic medal is decorated with a piece of original iron from the Eiffel Tower. In fact, the Eiffel Tower, built between 1887-1889, has been renovated several times. During this time, the metal extracted from it was preserved. Now that metal has also been used in the medals prepared for the Paris 2024 Games. The intention of the Olympic Commission behind this is to connect the Eiffel Tower and French history with the Games.
This is the design of the medals
To celebrate the return of the champions 100 years after the last Summer Games in France, the medals have been designed as real jewels, using the expertise of French jeweler Chaumet. The LVMH Group company has created these medals. World renowned for its expertise, elegance and the embodiment of French craftsmanship, Chaumet has brought medals to the world of fine jewelry with a design based on three inspirations – hexagon, radiance and gem setting. To bring the Eiffel Tower and the medals of the Games together, an equally symbolic craft was needed. That is why the LVMH House of Chaumet was chosen. The medal is decorated with a piece of iron from the Eiffel Tower.
Apart from this, special colours have also been used in the medal ribbon. The medal ribbon for the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024 has been designed like the Eiffel Tower lattice. The ribbon of the Olympic medal is dark blue, while the ribbon of the Paralympic medal is dark red.

According to Forbes report, a medal weighing 529 grams is to be given in this Olympics. About 95.4 percent of the gold medal is actually made of silver (505 grams). It has only 6 grams of pure gold and 18 grams of iron. The price of a gold medal given in the Paris Olympics is 950 dollars (about 80 thousand rupees). Medals made of pure gold were last given in 1912. If such medals are made in today’s time, then the price of one medal will be around 35 lakh rupees.
The weight of the silver medal is 525 grams. It contains 507 grams of silver and 18 grams of iron. Its price is approximately 486 dollars (about 41 thousand rupees). The weight of the bronze medal is 455 grams. It contains 415.15 grams of copper, 21.85 grams of zinc and 18 grams of iron. Its price is 13 dollars (about 1100 rupees).
