‘Every athlete is India’s pride’, PM Modi wishes Indian players who went to Paris Olympics

Paris Olympics 2024: The Paris Olympic Games have started late Friday evening (Indian time). It will conclude on August 11. India has sent a team of 117 players for the Paris Olympics. Half of these 117-member team includes players from three sports – athletics (29), shooting (21) and hockey (19). Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished all these players.

Extending his best wishes on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said every athlete is India’s pride. “My best wishes to the Indian contingent as the Paris Olympics begin. Every athlete is India’s pride. May they all shine and embody the true spirit of sportsmanship, inspiring us with their exceptional performances,” he said on the eve of the Olympics.

India’s Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya also congratulated the players on X. He wrote, “The time is getting closer! The opening ceremony of the #ParisOlympics2024 will begin soon, and the Indian contingent is all set to show its might on the world stage. I wish them all the best!”

BRS leader KTR also expressed his support for the players. KTR highlighted the potential for India to create history and surpass the 7 medals won at Tokyo Olympics 2020, the country’s highest ever. KTR said, “We extend our heartfelt best wishes to the entire team. We are united in their support, cheering for their success and celebrating their journey. May every athlete get the strength and determination to perform at their best, bringing glory and pride to our country.”

Earlier in the day, Union Sports and Bollywood star Ayushmann Khurrana urged the countrymen to cheer for Team India at the Paris Olympics. On the occasion of the launch of this campaign, Mansukh Mandaviya also presented Ayushmann with a commemorative T-shirt of the Indian team. Ayushmann wrote on social media, “The Olympics is the biggest sporting event in the world and the players participating in it are no less than titans in their sport. We have 117 such amazing athletes who are ready to fly our flag high at this year’s #Paris2024 Olympics!”

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also wished the players. He wrote on Twitter, “On behalf of the Congress, I join the nation in wishing our incredibly talented Indian athletes all the best for the Paris Olympics. Your dedication, perseverance and passion have brought you to this global stage. Make India proud with your performances, and may your spirits fly high like the tricolour. Bring glory home, and create memories that inspire generations to come.”
