Sheikh Hasina’s entire family was murdered

Sheikh Hasina was born on 28 September 1947 in Bangladesh. Her father was Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founder of Bangladesh. Hasina is the eldest daughter of her family. She spent her early life in Dhaka, Bangladesh. She entered politics as a student leader. Sheikh Hasina was also active in student politics at the University of Dhaka. After receiving praise from the people, Hasina took over the student wing of her father’s Awami League. After taking over the party, Sheikh Hasina went through a bad phase when her parents and 3 brothers were killed. This was in the year 1975. During this time, the army revolted and opened a front against Hasina’s family. Hasina’s father, mother and 3 brothers were killed in this battle. But Hasina, her husband Wajid Miyan and younger sister survived.

Took refuge in India after his father’s murder

After her family left, Sheikh Hasina went to Germany for some time. Sheikh Hasina had good relations with former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. After Germany, Indira Gandhi called Sheikh Hasina to India and then she stayed in Delhi for a few years. After this, Sheikh Hasina returned to her homeland Bangladesh in 1981. After going to Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina joined her party again and took charge. During her tenure, she made many changes in the party. Sheikh Hasina married physicist M.A. Wajed Miyan in 1968. She has a son Sajeeb Wajed and a daughter Saima Wajed.

Sheikh Hasina has become Prime Minister four times in a row

Sheikh Hasina Wazed was the Prime Minister of Bangladesh since January 2009. Meanwhile, the news of her resignation has surprised everyone. She served as the leader of the opposition from 1986 to 1990, and from 1991 to 1995. She has been leading the Awami League (AL) since 1981. She served as Prime Minister from June 1996 to July 2001. In 2009, she was sworn in for her second term as Prime Minister. In 2014, she was re-elected for a third term. She won again in 2018 and became Prime Minister for the fourth term.

When did Sheikh Hasina become Prime Minister for the first time

Sheikh Hasina served her first term as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh from 1996 to 2001 and became the first Prime Minister of the country to complete a five-year term since independence. During this tenure, she also signed a 30-year water sharing treaty on the Ganges River with the Government of India.

Sheikh Hasina was voted out of power in the 2001 general elections. But in 2008, she returned to power in Bangladesh with a landslide majority. In 2004, there was an attempt to assassinate Hasina through a grenade explosion at her rally, but she survived. Soon after coming to power in 2009, Hasina formed a tribunal to hear the war crimes cases of 1971. The tribunal convicted some high-profile opposition leaders, leading to violent protests.

Sheikh Hasina has so many awards to her name

Sheikh Hasina has won many awards during her political career. In the year 1998, she received the Mother Teresi Award by All India Peace Council. In the same year, she also won the MK Gandhi Award. In the year 2000, she was awarded The Pearl Bud Award. After this, in the year 2014, she was given the UNESCO Peace Tree Award for her commitment towards women empowerment and girl education. In 2009, she received the Indira Gandhi Prize. After this, in the year 2015, she was given the Lifetime Achievement Award.
