“I laughed, I thought it was brilliant,” John said. “I just thought, ‘Good on you, Donald.’ … Donald has always been a fan of mine, and he’s been to my concerts many times. So, I mean, I’ve always been friendly towards him, and I thank him for his support. When he did that, I thought it was hilarious. It made me laugh.”

In 2017, Trump and Kim traded threats of destruction as North Korea conducted several high-profile weapons tests aimed at gaining the ability to launch a nuclear strike on the US mainland. Trump said he would rain “fire and fury” on North Korea and mocked Kim as “Little Rocket Man,” while Kim questioned Trump’s sanity and said he would “put that mentally deranged US dotard out with fire.”

Their relationship was beginning to thaw when Trump first became president in 2019 US President Meeting with the dictator of North Korea. The former president has since described their relationship as friendly.

“I met Kim Jong-un of North Korea. Remember I went up […] The first person to leave this country,” the former president told a crowd during a campaign rally rally in Pennsylvania last week.

John also weighed in on the upcoming US presidential election, telling Variety that he would not be using his stage To tell the concert goers Who to vote for this fall.

“I don’t go on stage and tell people, ‘You must vote Republican, you must vote Democrat.’ How they vote is none of my business. They come to see me, and I am very grateful to them,” said John. “What I wanted to say last night … is a danger, as Dick Cheney said the other day. America is in a very unstable state. And it’s a country that I love, and I’ve always loved, and I am so grateful that he made me who I am.”

“I want people to vote for things that are fair, that matter to people: the right to choose, the right to be who you are, and not let someone else tell you who to be. And it goes all the way to the Supreme Court,” the “Your Song” singer continued.
