Elon Musk has shared a deepfake video of US Vice President Kamala Harris. Musk has shared this video on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). By sharing this video, Elon Musk himself has violated the policy of his social media platform X.

Musk shared this video on Friday, which is a deepfake version of Kamala Harris’s recent campaign video. Kamala Harris is now the presidential candidate after US President Joe Biden withdrew from the presidential election race.

What is the whole matter?

In fact, the account that first posted this fake video had put a disclaimer of Kamala Harris Campaign Ad PARODY on it. Due to this disclaimer, the video does not violate X’s policy, but this content is not visible in Musk’s repost.

Only this video is visible in the post made by Musk. On this, Musk wrote with a laughing emoji, ‘This is amazing.’ Only time will tell whether any action is taken against Musk for this post or not, but it definitely raises questions on the role of AI in elections.

How can misuse of AI affect elections?

This is a recent example of how AI can influence an election. We have seen deepfake videos of important people on many occasions. Even though these are made for fun and entertainment, these videos can confuse voters during elections.

Social media platforms need to be more strict about such content. They have to increase their role to stop the spread of misinformation. X has made it clear through its policy that such videos are not acceptable on its platform, which can confuse or harm people.

I asked world renowned expert Professor Suggan DeZantz about this and he said that parody is legal in America 🤷‍♂️

However, when people questioned Musk on the video he shared, he replied to them. Musk wrote that he has checked and parody is allowed in America.
