Election Commission will visit Jammu and Kashmir between 8 and 10 August, the team will review the preparations before the assembly elections

The Election Commission will visit Kashmir next week to review the preparations before the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu will hold several meetings from August 8 to 10 to review the election preparations in the Jammu and Kashmir Valley.

According to Election Commission sources, on August 8 and 9, the three commissioners and top officials of the commission will hold meetings with political parties, chief electoral officers and administrative and police officials of other districts in Jammu regarding deployment of security forces, movement, election preparations. The commission will remain in Srinagar from August 9 afternoon to August 10 evening.

According to sources, if everything goes as planned and as expected, the election schedule can be announced any day after the completion of the Amarnath Yatra on August 19. According to highly placed sources associated with the commission, conducting assembly elections is a big challenge for the government, security forces and administration due to terrorist incidents in Jammu division and Kashmir valley.

After the Lok Sabha elections were conducted peacefully and enthusiastically and record voter turnout was recorded, terrorist incidents have increased in the last one month. However, the Supreme Court has ordered to conduct elections in the state before 30 September.

The Election Commission has taken one more step forward towards holding assembly elections in four states including Jammu and Kashmir. The Commission has sent a letter to the Chief Secretary and Chief Electoral Officer of the four states and warned them about the posting and transfer of officers. Before the elections, it is a regular exercise that the transfer of officers posted for more than three years or officers posted in their home district who are directly involved in the election conduction process is necessary and mandatory. In this regard, the Election Commission has ordered the Chief Secretaries and CEOs of Haryana, Jharkhand, Maharashtra and the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir to complete this exercise and submit a report.
