Elderly man beaten up on suspicion of carrying beef in a moving train, accused arrested after video goes viral

A case of beating of an elderly passenger on suspicion of carrying beef has come to light in Maharashtra’s Dhule Express. A group of passengers beat up the elderly man suspecting him of carrying beef. The Railway Police Commissioner confirmed the incident and registered an FIR in the case and took the passengers who beat him into custody.

Based on the statement of the complainant, Thane GRP police have registered a case against more than 5 people under sections 189(2), 191(2), 190, 126(2), 115(2), 324(4) (5), 351(2) (3) and 352 of the BNS and taken the accused into custody. The case of beating of the elderly man came to light in a train between Kalyan and Igatpuri stations in Thane district.

The elderly traveler was going to meet his daughter

72-year-old Ashraf Ali Syed Hussain, a resident of Dhule, had boarded the Dhule CSMT Express train from Jalgaon to Kalyan to meet his daughter. During the journey, he had an argument with other co-passengers over the seat. The co-passengers made a video regarding this incident and made it viral on social media.

In connection with this incident, Thane Railway Police went to the house of the complainant’s daughter and recorded her statement. They also had some luggage but some passengers suspected that there was beef in their luggage. People claimed that when they checked the big plastic box they had, there was something like meat in it but they were questioned about whose it was. Then they were abused and some youths even beat them and made a video of it.

The fight started over the seat

When the video went viral, the GRP traced the elderly man and contacted him to lodge a complaint. Thane GRP has filed an FIR against more than 5 people for beating up an elderly passenger in a moving train. Police said that the incident took place in the Dhule Express train. The fight first took place over a seat and then he was beaten up accusing him of travelling with beef.

The suspected accused of the incident have been detained from Dhule. A team has been dispatched to bring them to Thane. Further legal action is being taken against the accused by examining the CCTV footage and viral videos.
