Donald Trump has been mocked online for giving it A blunt answer on childcare during a campaign event in New York on Thursday.
The former president was asked at the Economic Club of New York how he would prioritize legislation to make childcare more affordable if he wins the presidential election in November.
Trump responded: “I’ll do it and we’re sitting down. I was somebody that we had as a senator Marco Rubio And my daughter Ivanka was very influential on this issue. It is a very important point.
“But I think when you talk about the kind of numbers that I’m talking about because childcare is childcare, you should have it in this country, you should have it. But when you talk about those numbers compared to the numbers I’m talking about by taxing foreign nations at a level that they’re not used to, but they’ll get used to it very quickly.
“And it’s not going to stop them from doing business with us, but it’s going to put a very significant tax on them when they ship products into our country. Those numbers are much bigger than any of the numbers we’re talking about, including child care. About waste and fraud. With the reduction I told you about, I expect no deficit in the very short term.”

House Democrat Sean Kasten earlier responded to Trump’s comments on X TwitterWriting: “Terrible stupidity. People who listen know. People around him know it. A word salad, not pretending to be a single coherent thought. Vote for smart people.
The Lincoln Project, an anti-Trump conservative group, added: “This is it after weeks of debate preparation.”
A third X user commented: “This is not knitting. This is a physical assault on the English language.
“To this day, after trading with this man, I’m still disappointed about the most underreported story about this nincompoop. He is legally illiterate.”
