According to the Finance Ministry, till March 31, 2024, the central government had a debt of more than Rs 168 lakh crore. Out of this, a loan of Rs 163 lakh crore was taken from within the country. Whereas, a loan of Rs 5 lakh 37 thousand crore was taken from outside.
