It is common to have dreams while sleeping at night, but there are some people who have scary dreams at night, due to which they are not able to sleep properly. This mental condition of a person is called nightmare disorder. Actually, a person suffering from nightmare disorder has terrible dreams every night, due to which the person’s sleep is affected. Due to this, such a person starts living under stress and becomes a victim of mental health problems.

People with nightmare disorder have recurring nightmares that disrupt sleep, interfere with daytime functioning, and cause persistent distress. But some people have these dreams even though they do not have any problems and this is due to their habit of overthinking.

How nightmare disorder worsens mental health

1. Nightmare disorder increases stress and creates anxiety, which makes it difficult to relax or fall asleep. This anxiety does not let you sleep until the morning. Anxiety caused by nightmares can worsen existing mental health and interfere with everyday functioning.

3. Nightmares significantly affect sleep patterns. They can cause difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep. The fear of experiencing another nightmare can lead to prolonged wakefulness and disrupted sleep, leaving no time to rest. Persistent nightmares can worsen sleep deprivation and mental health conditions, leading to difficulty in focusing, remembering, and making decisions.
