The US has issued a travel advisory for its citizens asking them not to visit areas like Jammu-Kashmir and Manipur in India. The advice says that while travelling to India, avoid visiting areas where Naxals are active and also avoid visiting areas that are facing terror crisis.
Advisory said, risk increased in India
The travel advisory has asked people not to travel to Manipur, Jammu and Kashmir, the India-Pakistan border and the central and eastern parts of the country. In a revised travel advisory for India, the State Department said that “cautions have been increased in India due to crime and terrorism. Risk has increased in some areas.”
Many parts of the country are included in Level 4
Overall, India has been placed on Level 2. But many parts of the country have been placed on Level 4. These include Jammu and Kashmir, the Indo-Pak border, Manipur and parts of central and eastern India. The State Department said that “Do not travel to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir (except the eastern Ladakh region and its capital, Leh) due to terrorism and civil unrest.

Recommendation to reconsider travel to Northeast states
The advice is given because of terrorism within 10 km of the India-Pakistan border due to the potential for armed conflict, and violence and crime in Manipur in central and eastern India.’ Further, it recommended Americans to reconsider travel to northeastern states due to terrorism and violence.
‘Terrorists can attack at any time’
The travel advisory said, “Rape is one of the fastest growing crimes in India as reported by Indian authorities. Violent crimes such as sexual assault have occurred at tourist sites and other places. Terrorists can strike at any time. They target tourist sites, transport hubs, markets, shopping malls and government establishments.”
