TMC MLA Sayantika Banerjee.

TMC MLA Sayantika Banerjee , The conflict between the Governor and Mamata government in West Bengal may increase again. In fact, Governor CV Anand Bose has imposed a fine of Rs 500 each on two newly elected Trinamool Congress MLAs Sayantika Banerjee and Rayat Hussain. Let us tell you that Assembly Speaker Biman Banerjee had administered the oath to these two MLAs in the Assembly on July 5, while the Governor had appointed Deputy Speaker of the House Ashish Banerjee for this. The Governor says that he had appointed Deputy Speaker Ashish Banerjee to administer the oath to the new MLAs but the oath was administered by the Assembly Speaker. This has violated ‘constitutional norms’. In the e-mail sent by the Governor to both the MLAs, each has been asked to pay a fine of Rs 500.

Governor imposed fine

The government said that in the e-mail, both the MLAs have been informed that a fine of Rs 500 each has been imposed on them as it is alleged that their swearing-in and presence on the first day of the assembly session violated constitutional norms. The 10-day session of the House began on Monday and was adjourned after paying tributes to the deceased members.

We met the speaker of the assembly

Sayantika Banerjee said, ‘We met the Speaker of the Assembly and showed him the email. He said that the Speaker’s office is considering the issue. We understand that after taking oath in the legislature, which is called the temple of democracy, we have no problem in attending the session as elected representatives.’

Why should I pay the fine?

Responding to a question, she said she will continue to attend assembly sessions. When asked if she has paid the fine, Banerjee said, “Why should I pay? Have we done anything illegal or improper?” Raj Bhavan sources have confirmed that such emails were sent to the concerned MLAs. The Assembly Speaker could not be contacted for comment on the matter.

Sayantika had refused to go to the Raj Bhavan

Let us tell you that earlier on June 26, Sayantika had refused to go to the Raj Bhavan. Sayantika said that in the case of assembly by-elections, the oath taking ceremony is usually done by the Speaker or Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, whereas the Raj Bhavan has directly asked her to come to the Raj Bhavan without informing the Assembly Secretariat. Secondly, the party’s Rayat Hussain Sarkar, who was elected from Bhagwangola seat, has not been invited at all. Therefore, she has decided not to go to the Raj Bhavan.
