Discussion on motion of thanks in Lok Sabha today, uproar expected on issues like NEET paper leak, Agnipath scheme

Lok Sabha Proceeding: Parliament proceedings are resuming today on Monday (1 July). In the Lok Sabha, Bharatiya Janata Party MP and former Union Minister Anurag Thakur will initiate the discussion on the motion of thanks on the President’s address. During this time, there is a possibility of a heated debate on issues like National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) question paper leak, Agneepath scheme and inflation. Apart from the question paper leak case, the opposition can also raise the issue of unemployment. Bansuri Swaraj, daughter of late BJP leader Sushma Swaraj and first-time Lok Sabha member, will approve this proposal.

16 hours allotted for discussion on thanks motion

The Lok Sabha has allotted 16 hours for discussion on the motion of thanks, which will conclude with Prime Minister Modi’s reply on Tuesday. The Rajya Sabha has allotted 21 hours for discussion and the Prime Minister is likely to respond on Wednesday. The NEET issue created a lot of uproar in Parliament this week. The National Examination Agency (NTA) had conducted NEET-UG on May 5, in which about 24 lakh candidates appeared. The results were declared on June 4, but after this there were allegations of question paper leak and other irregularities related to the exam in states like Bihar.

Discussion begins in Rajya Sabha

Initiating the discussion in the Rajya Sabha, BJP member Sudhanshu Trivedi had described Modi as incomparable and said there was a huge difference between his approach to deal with issues facing the country and the approach adopted by the country’s first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru. BJP member Kavita Patidar had supported the motion and nine other members have participated in the discussion so far. In the Lok Sabha on Friday, the opposition members created a ruckus demanding a discussion on the alleged irregularities in the medical entrance exam NEET-UG, due to which the proceedings of the House were adjourned for the day.

Uproar over NEET issue

The opposition staged a strong protest in the Rajya Sabha demanding a discussion on the NEET controversy and Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge also came close to the Speaker’s chair along with his fellow members. Amid the uproar over the NEET issue, Congress MP from Chhattisgarh Phoolo Devi Netam suddenly fainted due to high blood pressure, after which she was admitted to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. Members of opposition parties criticized the government for not adjourning the proceedings of the House and not worrying about the health of the Rajya Sabha member.
