The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) will hold a statewide protest on Sunday demanding inclusion of the findings of the Bihar government’s caste-based survey in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution. Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav has said he will lead the protest in Patna and similar protests will be organised in all 38 districts of Bihar.
Tejashwi Yadav said that this demand has been going on for a long time and his party had also knocked the door of the Supreme Court with this demand. He said that the party will present its side before the Supreme Court on the day of hearing. Targeting Bihar CM Nitish Kumar for his silence on this demand, Tejashwi said, ‘Despite playing an important role in the Center, JDU and Nitish do not care about it.’
JDU had demanded a caste survey in the meeting
Let us tell you that recently a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on OBC Welfare was held, in which the parties of the INDIA alliance and NDA allies strongly raised their demands regarding caste census. According to sources, in this meeting JDU had specifically demanded caste census and proposed to increase the limit of creamy layer for OBC from the existing limit to Rs 20 lakh. JDU had said that at present the limit of creamy layer is not sufficient for the OBC category, and it needs to be increased so that more and more people can take advantage of it.
Emphasis on filling the vacant posts of OBC
In the meeting, the parties of the INDIA alliance also stressed the need for caste census. They had requested the chairman of the committee to send a recommendation letter to the Home Ministry, demanding caste census in the country. In the meeting, there was also a demand to fill the vacant posts for OBC and implement reservation. The demand to immediately fill the vacant seats of OBC in central universities and implement reservation in temporary posts (Adhoc posts) was also raised prominently.
