A 44-year-old man died after his car fell into a drain in Delhi’s Burari area. Police said the incident took place near a metro pillar on the Ring Road at around 11 pm on Sunday night. The car was pulled out with the help of a JCB, while the body of the deceased was taken out by divers.
According to the police, the speeding car coming from Bhalswa Dairy suddenly came towards the temporary metro diversion leading to the drain and fell into it. A PCR van, fire engines and divers from the disaster management team of East district rushed to the spot and within 20 minutes the car was located about 100 metres from the spot, the official said.
According to the news agency, the car that was the victim of the accident was found registered in the name of Rajesh Bhutt, a resident of Shalimar Bagh, which was pulled out of the drain with the help of a JCB machine. However, the body of the deceased was not recovered immediately.

On Monday morning, a team of divers made fresh attempts and pulled out Bhutt’s body from the drain. He said that during investigation it was revealed that Bhutt worked in a transport company and he had gone out alone on a joy ride on Sunday. He said that prima facie it appears to be a road accident caused by speeding and careless driving.
Based on the statement of an eyewitness and facts revealed during interrogation, a case has been registered under sections 281 (rash driving), 106 (1) (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code and further investigation is underway, the police said.
