Pankaj, an aspirant preparing for the UPSC exam, told news agency PTI, “Earlier, library owners running libraries on the first or second floor used to charge Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000 per month, but now after many libraries closed, they have doubled their fees knowing that students have no other option. Students who will soon appear for the (UPSC) main exam have no choice. Because the rooms we live in are so small that we cannot study comfortably there and we need to go to the library.”

Another student said that students visiting libraries in areas around Old Rajendra Nagar, such as Patel Nagar, are also being asked to pay fees ranging from Rs 4,000 to Rs 5,000. Earlier the fees of these libraries were around 2000 to 25000. Let us tell you that among the coaching institutes against which MCD has taken action in Old Rajendra Nagar, famous UPSC coach Vikas Divyakirti’s institute ‘Drishti IAS’ is also included. MCD is taking this action against the institutes misusing basements in the entire city.

MCD has started action against illegal libraries running in basements from 28th July. So far, libraries of 19 coaching centres have been sealed. Delhi Mayor Shaili Oberoi said that many coaching centres across Delhi have violated the building bylaws of MCD. MCD is going to take strict action against all these. If any officer is found to be involved in this, action will be taken against him as well. If a coaching centre runs in the basement, then there is entry and exit from two sides. But there are many coaching centres across Delhi, which are not following even a single rule.
