Dehradun: Hidden camera found in women’s washroom, SSP said – it was not a camera device but a mobile phone

A serious case of a hidden camera being installed inside the women’s washroom in a big restaurant in Dehradun has come to light. A woman advocate alleged that a camera was hidden in the washroom in which video recording was being done. Complainant advocate Khushboo Nigam said that she had gone to Anandam restaurant for dinner with 11 members of her family at 9 pm. When she went to the washroom of the restaurant, she saw that a camera was hidden in the false ceiling. She immediately informed the manager about it. During this, she took a picture of the hidden camera as evidence.

The victim alleges that when she talked to the restaurant owner about this, he tried to suppress the matter and even said that he would hand over the cleaning staff to her. The restaurant owner also said that the CCTV cameras were not working, so it was difficult to find out who was coming and going in the washroom. Apart from this, the advocate said that the restaurant owner also accused us of not paying the bill. After this, he also called 1090 and 112.

Restaurant owner Anand Gupta said that he is very ashamed of this incident and will investigate against the staff. He said that he is a 72-year-old senior citizen and recently had angioplasty. He came to know about the incident at around 10 pm. He somehow reached the restaurant at 11:45 pm and found out about the matter.

On this matter, SSP Dehradun said that the accused has been arrested. During interrogation, accused Vinod Mandal told that a month ago a rat had died in the washroom, and he had installed a mobile phone while using the hole for cleaning. According to the SSP, there was no camera device installed in the washroom, but there was a mobile phone which belonged to a cleaning worker.

After the matter came to light, the Chairperson of the Women’s Commission Kusum Kandwal inspected the spot and said that she has demanded strict action from the District Magistrate and the administration in this matter. Apart from this, she said that all the hotels and restaurants in the capital should be verified and it should be ensured that CCTV cameras are working there and there is no lack of security in the women’s washroom.
