Daughter converted to Islam, left Hinduism, withdrew money from father’s account… Mother approached the police

A woman and another man were arrested in a religious conversion case in Vitthalwadi in Ulhasnagar area of ​​Thane district. A police officer said on Friday that this action was taken on the complaint of the woman’s mother. Vitthalwadi police station officer said that a person resident of Ulhasnagar lodged a complaint on Thursday that his daughter was forcibly converted to Islam.

The police officer said, ‘According to the complaint, the woman renounced Hinduism under the influence of a nearby family and after watching videos of a controversial Islamic preacher. The conversion took place when the complainant was in London in June 2022. She has also claimed that her daughter later went missing.’ According to the complainant, in 2022, she also received a letter from the Ulhasnagar and Ambarnath Mosque Trust, confirming her daughter’s conversion.

The officer said, ‘The woman has also said that after conversion, her daughter withdrew money from her father’s account. She told us that her daughter has been brainwashed and she may be forced to participate in illegal activities.’ On the woman’s complaint, a case has been registered on Thursday under the Indian Penal Code for promoting enmity between different groups (153-A), damaging or desecrating places of worship (295, 295-A), making objectionable statements (298), cheating, forgery, criminal intimidation and causing damage with a dangerous weapon (324) apart from other offenses.

Vithalwadi police station official said, “The complainant’s daughter has been arrested along with another person, while eight people are absconding. Both were produced in court today and sent to police custody for three days. Further investigation is underway in the case.”
